great albums

Here's a collection of albums I'm currently listening to or just love in general.

I'm a big fan of listening to an album cover to cover. You really get a feel for what the artist intended or what they were going through when they created the album.

In todays day in age I think its something thats becoming less common, and I encourage everyone to listen to albums this way.

Ginger Root opened up at a Durand Jones and The Indications concert I went to earlier this year, and has been an artist I can't stop listening to. He has a hilarious quirky style and insane soul sound thats pretty unique these days. I think I remember him calling their sound "Soul Elevator Music" and its something everyone should check out.
Stella Donnelly Beware of the Dogs Beware of the Dogs Stella Donnelly

I can't say enough about Stella Donnelly but in a few words her voice is beautiful, this album is beautiful, and everyone should give her a listen. I can't tell you how many times I've listened to this album only to start it over again from the beginning.

Spotify has this amazing way of magically finding new songs for you and thats exactly how I came across Haley Heynderickx. I first heard the song "The Bug Collector" after a playlist had gone into recommendations and I had to dive into her music. She's a singer/songwriter with a pretty unique sound and paints a beautiful picture throughout "I Need to Start a Garden". +1 from tones
STRFKR Starfucker Starfucker STRFKR

STRFKR is one of those bands I only recently went through a deep dive. I had always known their "popular" songs but never really took the time to listen to their album. I was fortunate enough to see them on their 10th anniversary tour where they performed this entire album as their first set and it was life changing. Definitely recommend checking it out.

11 years too late on listening to this album cover to cover, but I can't tell you how many times I've listened to it in 2019. Vampire Weekend went from that band that had those songs "A-Punk" and "The kids don't stand a chance" to one of my favorite bands. A+
Peach Pit Being So Normal Being So Normal Peach Pit

I'm not sure how many people are familiar with Peach Pit but if you like any form of rock music give them a listen. I came across the music video for "Seventeen" some time in 2017 and immediately devoured every ounce of content they had. I love this band. Also really good live.
Whitney Light Upon the Lake Light Upon the Lake Whitney

I think most people are familiar with Whitney by now, but I swear to god this is one of my favorite albums of all time. I came across it during a big life event during a move across the country and this album is something I sort of held on to during that time. Julien's vocals paired with their sound is something rare.
A$AP Rocky AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP A$AP Rocky

I kinda stumbled upon this album the day it came out. That sounds weird to say, but I had an 8-hour car ride and it had showed up on Spotify's "New Releases" that morning so I said what the hell. What turned from thinking of A$AP as just a trendy hits rapper, I immediately became obsessed with this album. I listened to it over and over and over and couldn't get enough. The story is good, the beats are good, his lyrics are great. AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP.

This album is amazing. Harry Styles is amazing. I never listened to One Direction, or followed any of their music, but if you're looking for music to belt out to while stuck in traffic during your commute, this is the album. Its so fucking good.

This is a great intro to A Tribe Called Quest and a great album in general. Simple, solid, hip hop.
The Black Keys Attack & Release Attack & Release The Black Keys

This album is all memories for me. It's one of the first that I could remember cycling through over and over again. The tracks "Psychotic Girl", "So He Won't Break", and "Things Ain't Like They Used to Be" got me through a break up, but all those memories are now lost in the music. This album is a weird shift in The Black Keys lineup, kinda post "bluesy-grunge" but before Brothers took off in 2010. If you like any of the newer Black Keys stuff I'd definitely give it a listen.

I mean I love Daft Punk just as much as the next person, but this album is the one I keep coming back to. Don't get me wrong, Random Access Memories is phenomenal, but for whatever reason this is what I want to hear when I'm in the mood for Daft Punk.
